Dianora of Tarth
It's only a diary. Everyone knows diaries are just full of crap.

"Some people are born not to do things. I'm one of them... I seem fated to pass through the world without colliding with it or moving it... I don't die - I don't fall in love. And if other people die or fall in love they always do it when I'm just not there."
- Philip Herriton, from E. M. Forster's Where Angels Fear To Tread

"One wants to move through life with elegance and grace, blossoming infrequently but with exquisite taste, and perfect timing, like a rare bloom, a zebra orchid... One wants... But one so seldom gets what one wants, does one?"
- Prior Walter, from Tony Kushner's Angels in America

"She felt a nausea of the soul, a hideous and sickening despair, a melancholy weariness so profound that she was going to die of it. Her last conscious thought was disgust at life; her senses had lied to her. The world was not made of energy and delight but of foulness, betrayal and lassitude. Living was hateful, and death was no better, and from end to end of the universe this was the first and last and only truth."
- Philip Pullman, His Dark Materials

Dianora is an anaemic, gentle little spinster in her mid thirties. She suffers from all the usual spinster syndromes: fear of intimacy, intense love for little children, absent-mindedness, an unhealthy obsession with illness and death, and a growing interest in the symbolism of dreams. In her spare time she enjoys doodling and falling desperately in love with fictional characters. She likes to pretend to have a green thumb.
Strengths: Her family, her ability of detachment from ails and pains of everyday life, her practical mind and skilful hands.
Weaknesses: Her sensitivity, shyness and irrational fears. Her innate laziness and refusal to accept any responsibility whatsoever. The fact that she idealizes anyone and everyone she likes. Her forgetfulness and occasional bouts of insomnia.
Special Skills: Adaptability, self-reliance, wild imagination, a musical ear.
Weapons: Her nasty tongue, icy scorn, and stubborrness that could move tectonic plates. She's also very good at tripping people up since she can easily blend in with the furniture, thus making herself completely unnoticeable.
Favourite philosopher: Arthur Schopenhauer
